Air Traffic Safety Electronic Personnel (ATSEP), also known as airport technical specialists, is responsible for maintenance and support of ground-based electronics and software used to support air navigation and Air Traffic Management (ATM).

The role of the ATSEP is safety critical for the ATM environment and must ensure that specification, procurement, installation, maintenance, and testing of ground electronics systems is supporting aircraft movements in a safe and effective manner.

The combination between AviNeering’s industry experience and our ATSEP instructors professional background has been the foundation for development of our ATSEP training program. The courses are compliant with EASA regulation (EU) 2017/373 and ICAO Manual DOC 10057, containing the implementing rules and recommendations for ATSEP training and competence.

How to become an ATSEP

The recent EU 2017/373 revision provides air navigation service providers and course participants greater flexibility in their path to train and educate ATSEP.

To become an ATSEP, the course participants must complete ATSEP Basic Shared, at least one of the Basic Streams, ATSEP Qualification Shared, and at least one of the Qualification Streams relevant to the ATSEP profile.

BASIC TRAINING

Basic Training is designed to impart fundamental knowledge of the CNS/ATM environment and skill applicable to all learner ATSEPs.

Basic Training is divided into two parts;
(1) Basic Shared and, (2) Basic Streams.

Basic Shared includes Subject 1 and Subject 2, and
Basic Streams include Subject 3 – Subject 11.

All learner ATSEPs are required to complete Basic Shared and at least one of the subjects in Basic Streams relevant to the ATSEP profile.

ATSEP Basic Training

QUALIFICATION TRAINING

Qualification Training is designed to impart knowledge to be able to explain the purpose of each system, each piece of equipment and its technical specification.

Following the successful completion of ATSEP Basic Training, the learner ATSEP will require to complete Qualification Shared (SHR), followed by one or more of the Qualification Streams relevant to the ATSEP profile.
