Civil Work Activities Started – Mora Airport ILS/DME and AGL Turnkey Project

Civil Work Approach Lights Area

In January 2025, AviNeering AS was awarded a turnkey contract for the design, delivery, and installation of a new Instrument Landing System (ILS), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), and Airfield Ground Lighting (AGL) system at Mora-Siljan Airport in Sweden.

After several months of detailed planning and system design, on-site civil work activities started this week. The project remains on schedule, with the new ILS/DME and AGL operational by the end of July 2025.

The scope of the project includes:

  • Installation of a new Normarc ILS and Indra DME, supplied by Indra Navia

  • Installation of a new LED-based AGL system, supplied by OCEM Airfield Technology

  • Delivery and installation of frangible mast by Amplisafe for the approach lighting system, supplied by Normeka

  • Delivery of two NavAid equipment shelters, designed and manufactured by AviNeering

  • Execution of comprehensive civil works, including:

    • New primary and secondary power cabling covering the entire airfield

    • Construction of new equipment and foundations for new approach light masts, localizer antenna system and glide path antenna system.

    • Installation of fiber optic communication lines

    • Development of a new service road to support airside access and maintenance

The project also includes training for local ATSEPs (Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel), who will be responsible for operating and maintaining the systems after installation is completed.

A key aspect of the project is the phased implementation and short timeline: the new ILS and AGL systems are being installed and commissioned while the existing systems remain fully operational. Once the new systems are in service, the existing systems will be dismantled and removed.

All works are being carried out in close coordination with airport operations to ensure safety and minimize operational disruption. We would also like to acknowledge the excellent support from BELO EL, who is responsible for the electrical high voltage civil works.

Further updates will be published as the project progresses through the installation and testing phases.
