ATSEP BASIC TRAINING


About the course

Basic training is designed to impart fundamental knowledge of the CNS/ATM environment and skill applicable to all learner ATSEPs. It is a common module to all ratings and endorsements according to EU regulation 2017/373.

The course duration for Basic Shared and Basic Stream is 10 days, and includes theoretical lessons, case studies and exercises. The length of each course may vary with the number of students and the streams relevant to the ATSEP learner.  

The subjects can be delivered as a stand-alone course or together with a series of streams tailored to the learner ATSEP request.

Course Content

The standard ATSEP Basic Training course contains the following subjects:

  • Induction
    Learners shall describe the ATM work environment

  • Air Traffic Familiarisation

    Learners shall describe the role of ATC in the ATM environment

  • Aeronautical Information Services

    Learners shall define the organisation if AIS

  • Meteorology

    Learner shall state the impact of meteorology on aircraft and ATS operations and explain the importance of meteorological information in ATM

  • Communication

    Learners shall explain the principles used in Voice and Data Communications

  • Navigation

    Learners shall explain the basic principles of navigation and navigational aids and describe their use in ATM

  • Surveillance

    Learners shall explain the principles used in Primary Radar, Secondary Radar, and other Surveillance systems, and describe their use in ATM operations

  • Data Processing

    Learners shall explain the principles used in data processing and describe their use in ATM operations

  • System Monitoring Control

    Learners shall define the SMC function and describe its basic principles

  • Maintenance Procedures

    Learners shall describe general maintenance strategy and procedures

  • Facilities

    Learners shall describe facilities and define the level of performance required
